Description of the performance

ALIEN – Dance created for the community – For Steve Reich‘s iconic ‘Music for 18 musicians’, 8 local dancers will whirl us into a timeless dance.

ALIEN allows us to see and experience dance as a first time experience. A meditative and timeless dance, a large living statue of people in motion placed in a empty room, an abstract and ritual act and a tribute to all those who are experienced as – and experience themselves as – ALIEN.

ALIEN is part of Location X’s examination of how the art of dance and the common aesthetic experiences and realizations can be anchored in a city, in an area and in the individual human being.

Through the artistic sensations, the cohesive force is strengthened. It helps to create a stronger experience of belonging and being a part of society. When art finds a home and is anchored, then you will be anchored.

The choreographic work ALIEN got started as a commission work for Smena Gallery, a choreographic laboratory with 6 local artists in Kazan, Russia in 2019. The project was part of the Finnish-Russian Dance Exchange organized by Dance Info Finland and Smena Gallery. In 2021 the performance was taking a new shape with 10 new local dance artists from Odense, Denmark and present it in Kuntbygningen Filosoffen Gallery. In 2022 the performance is taking again a new shape. In collaboration with 8 new local dance artists from Oulu, Finland, the performance will be created for black box stage and presented in Cultural Centre Valve.
