Jonna Aaltonen: MATKA – The Journey

Schedule

The performance will tour in communities according to an agreed schedule. The communities are selected through an open call.

Description of the performance

MATKA – The Journey dance miniature is a solo performance created as part of the MATKA – The Journey experience concept.

The solo performance offers the viewer kinesthetic and emotional surfaces of identification; movement gives rise to feeling, feeling to movement. Each performance is a unique event. Genuine contact is made, a real encounter takes place.

The solo contains dynamically changing orientations of thought, which feed the imagination of the spectator, leading to a variety of images and raising a question: Where is this going? Where is this all leading?

The Journey consists of two parts: a physical and kinetic moment to be experienced together, a solo dance performance and a reflection on the experience through writing, drawing and discussion. The whole is a unique journey experienced together by the director-performer and the participant.

“An experiential journey into oneself and one’s own perceptions. Insights and broader perspectives to structure life. Inspiration that amazes and transports you forward. Something unforeseen that increases self-awareness. A unique, intimate encounter and event. Movement causes emotion, emotion causes movement. Even if your conscious mind doesn’t know or understand, your body knows and understands. The body is wise!”
