Description of the performance

Adi Schwarz Dance Project’s Boys in the Sand explores softness, fragility, and femininity within the male body in today’s world, interweaving echoes of the past, realities of the present, and visions of the future.

Boys in the Sand, featuring strikingly precise movement, is strange and hypnotic—at times even intense. Performed by an international working group of virtuoso dancers—the Dutch Koen Kaya Eyen, the Italian Michele Simi, and the Spanish Ángel Bogar—the piece holds the audience in its grip, at moments leaving them breathless and at others making them smile.

Boys in the Sand is based on the 1971 film of the same name by American dancer-choreographer Wakefield Poole. The film is known not only as a pioneer of the gay cinema genre, but also for its unapologetic portrayal of homosexual intimacy.

Adi Schwarz Dance Project is a contemporary dance initiative that serves as a space for creation, research, and performance, bringing together a diverse range of artists to explore bold ideas through movement, sound, and visual language.
