Tanssikeskus Citydance, Studio 1
Saturday 13.9.
10:00-13:00
Combining choreographic exercises and martial arts, this workshop will give the participants an insight into the creative process behind the piece GO! We will start by a full contemporary dance warm-up, engaging the whole body, before exploring some martial arts energy though games and improvisational exercises. The workshop is led by choreographer Jennifer Gohier and Finnish dancer and karateka Ville Oinonen.
The workshop is targeted at dance professionals and vocational dance students.
Jennifer Gohier is a dancer and choreographer currently leading the company Corps In Situ. She was classically trained in ballet at the Angers Conservatoire and the Ballet du Nord School and joined the Ballet de l’Opéra Thréâtre de Metz Métropole in 2005. Today, she performs with Martine Waniowsky’s theatre company “Les Bestioles”. In parallel with her artistic career, she trained in the production and administration of the performing arts at AGECIF Paris and the House of Training in Luxembourg. She coordinated the professional training program at TROIS CL Maison pour la danse from 2016 to 2019 and, since 2023, is involved for the “Premières Scènes” program at the ESAL Metz music and dance center as professionalization coach. Holder of a state dance teacher’s diploma since 2010, she also works as a guest choreographer and teacher in various schools and choreographic institutions.
Ville Oinonen started training karate before his career in dance, and has represented Finland in international competitions with the Finnish national team. In 2006, after four years of studying at the Kuopio Academy of Music and Dance, he got a degree in Dance pedagogy (BA). During his studies, he was already engaged in professional dance productions with Routa Company. Oinonen went on to dance for Dance Theatre MD and freelance with Helena Franzén, Glims & Gloms Dance Company, Karttunen Kollektiv, Kosei Sakamoto and Anu Sistonen. In 2018, Oinonen launched The Days Project with Maria Nurmela, created in collaboration with British choreographer Theo Clinkard, that tours internationally to this day.
